Regain your health, well-being, and appearance with lifelike, highly functional dental bridges
Nothing quite mars the smile’s appearance like a gap where a tooth used to be. Likewise, an aching tooth can overtake every aspect of your life. Fortunately, at Gloucester Family Dentistry in Gloucester, Ontario, we have options like dental bridges to rebuild a missing tooth or to replace a tooth that cannot be preserved and must be extracted or removed.
Porcelain dental bridges
A dental bridge is a time-tested way to replace a single tooth, a few teeth, or several teeth. Porcelain fixed bridges distinguish from other types of bridges in more than a few ways. The “porcelain” refers to the material used to make the bridge. It is considered a “gold standard” dental material, partly due to its aesthetic properties. This ceramic generally resists stains and mimics the properties of natural tooth enamel for the most lifelike and seamless appearance in the smile.
Porcelain is not only pleasing to the eye; it is also strong and highly durable to replicate the protective tooth enamel.
The fixed part of the bridge refers to how the replacement tooth (or teeth) is secured permanently. It can only be removed by a dentist like our own Dr. Fuad Tanha. This characteristic is distinguished favourably from bridges or “flippers” that must be removed for cleaning or partials that snap on or off of remaining teeth via specialized attachments. Since these bridges are designed more like natural teeth, patients secure optimal chewing efficiency and satisfaction with how their teeth function. Also, fixed bridges eliminate much of the hassle associated with cleaning and maintaining removable oral appliances.

If Dr. Fuad Tanha determines that a dental bridge is appropriate for you, the procedure can be completed in two appointments. First, the neighbouring abutment teeth are reduced in size. Information is collected to make dental crowns, which will fit over these anchor teeth. The crowns will be fused to the pontic (replacement tooth). During your return visit, the bridge will be cemented to the abutments. As the crowns are secured, the pontic fills the gap between the abutment or anchor teeth.
We are also happy to discuss alternatives such as bridges supported by implants placed and secured in the jaw instead of neighbouring teeth.

A bridge is a non-surgical way to replace one or many teeth. A bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors to support the missing tooth or teeth. With today’s dental advancements, a bridge can be fabricated in a fairly short period of time, using a metal or nonmetal foundation. Don’t let that missing tooth affect the way you speak, eat, and smile. Bridges yield immediate results that last a lifetime. Ask your dentist what type of bridge may be right for you.
